Student Diagnosis:Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
Job Overview:A school in North Massapequa is seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support a student diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This role focuses on monitoring the student’s health, administering medication, and collaborating with school staff to ensure a safe and supportive environment throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities:Regularly monitor the student’s blood glucose levels and respond appropriately to fluctuations.
Administer insulin and other prescribed medications per the established care plan.
Ensure timely and accurate medication administration .
Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and healthcare providers about any changes in the student’s condition.
Observe and assist the student with behavioral or physical signs related to blood sugar changes.
Provide comfort and reassurance during hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic episodes .
Collaborate with teachers and school staff to integrate the student’s care into their daily classroom routine.
Maintain emergency contacts and supplies in an easily accessible and organized manner.
Participate in care planning meetings and provide regular updates on the student’s status.
Educate school staff on diabetes management and how to support the student’s condition safely and effectively .
Active LPN License (New York State)
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – American Heart Association
