Job Description

Accounting Specialist Los Alamitos, CA Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accounting Specialist will be responsible for establishing payment terms and collecting payment against those terms according to established standards. The specialist will follow the collection procedures established by the organization and will assist with billing and payables as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Make collection calls and/or correspondence to solicit payment on overdue accounts and take all necessary actions to collect. - Provide updates regarding collection issues, process account adjustments, and resolve account discrepancies. - Process customer credit applications to determine credit worthiness. - Monitor and maintain all customer accounts, including customer calls, account adjustments, and small balance write-offs. - Handle customer reconciliation and process credit customers in a timely manner. - Reduce delinquency for assigned accounts and maintain records of all delinquent accounts, bankruptcies, and credit risks. - Prepare and file collections paperwork and support the efforts of sales, program management, and senior management when necessary to accelerate the collection process. - Communicate and follow up effectively with sales and other departments regarding customer accounts on a timely basis. - Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and customers. - Perform other assigned tasks and duties necessary to support the Accounting Department, including training as an Accounts Payable back-up. - Manage customers on the On Hold, COD, and Cash Advance List. - Reconcile customer disputes as they pertain to payment of outstanding balances and cash receipt postings. Education and Experience: - A high school diploma or associate degree in accounting or related field is preferred. - 3 + years of accounting experience, with an emphasis on AR/Collection and payables. - Strong attention to detail, goal-oriented. - Commitment to excellent customer service. - Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. - Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
